An audio environment describes background sound intended to accompany a conversation. Keep it subtle enough that spoken information remains easy to understand.
The dashboard’s Audio environment control belongs to the unsaved voice preview. The API accepts background-sound authoring settings, but voice publication and live background playback are not available through this guide.

Background-sound fields

These fields belong to conversation_config.conversation.background_sound. Preset identifiers include office1, office2, restaurant, city, typing, and elevator1 through elevator4. The source type does not provide a custom audio-file upload option.

Prepare an environment

1

Decide whether background sound is needed

Consider the listener’s task and likely surroundings. A quiet environment may be easier to understand for instructions containing dates, addresses, or codes.
2

Choose one preset

Record the intended preset and a conservative volume. Keep a version without background sound in your review plan so later listening tests can compare intelligibility.
3

Save and inspect a draft

Preserve the full agent snapshot and use the server-draft workflow. Read the background-sound object back. Do not treat the unsaved dashboard preview as confirmation of stored settings.
Background sound is separate from tool_call_sound on a tool definition. It also does not configure noise suppression, microphone processing, or ASR recognition. Use voice and language for input-recognition settings.
