# Billing groups

> Understand existing group-aware billing metadata and prepare a workspace allocation plan.

A billing group associates workspaces for a defined commercial purpose. It is separate from a user group, which organizes people and resource access.

<Note>
  There is no released public API or dashboard workflow to create billing groups, change their membership, or assign a shared payer. Existing group-aware quota reads are a limited implementation, not a complete billing-management feature.
</Note>

## Understand the existing read behavior

[Subscription information](/api-reference/get-user-subscription-info) includes `professional_voice_slots_used` and `professional_voice_slots_used_in_workspace`. When a billing group is already configured, the first count can include linked workspaces, while the second identifies the selected workspace's portion. This does not establish shared credits or group-wide invoice management.

## Prepare a group proposal

You need the workspace owners and an authorized billing contact.

<Steps>
  <Step title="List proposed members" id="billing-groups-members">
    Record each workspace ID, owner, current subscription, and intended cost center. Specify who should approve additions and removals.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Define allocation rules" id="billing-groups-allocation">
    Separate the intended payer, usage attribution, quotas, and access rules. Being billed together must not be assumed to grant people access to another workspace.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm the supported arrangement" id="billing-groups-confirm">
    Review [consolidated billing](/overview/administration/consolidated-billing) and request confirmation through the [Help Center](https://help.threetone.in/en). Keep implementation and commercial approval pending until both are established.
  </Step>
