# Multiple voices

> Prepare a default saved voice and compatible language-specific voice overrides without assuming live multi-speaker support.

You can prepare a default voice and language-specific voice references in an agent draft. This is useful when different languages need different saved voices while retaining the same agent instructions.

<Note>
  The dashboard's voice controls are unsaved previews, and voice publication is unavailable. Language-specific voice references do not establish multi-speaker output or voice switching during a live conversation.
</Note>

## Prepare voice references

You need a target branch and saved voices that your workspace can access. Start with [List my voices](/api-reference/voices/list-my-voices) and the current [model catalog](/overview/models).

<Steps>
  <Step title="Choose the default pair">
    Set `conversation_config.tts.model_id` and `conversation_config.tts.voice_id`. Record the selected model, voice, and intended base language together.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose a voice for each additional language">
    In `conversation_config.language_presets`, use the language tag as the map key. A preset can set `overrides.tts.voice_id` to an accessible saved voice.

    The preset does not contain a replacement TTS model. Review each voice against the base TTS model and that language's requirements.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Keep the wording consistent">
    Review each language's first message and pronunciation requirements. A voice reference does not translate the prompt or establish that a voice supports every language.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Inspect the saved draft">
    Follow [versions and drafts](/agents-platform/deploy/versioning). Read the draft back to confirm the default voice and each language-specific reference. Do not use publication as a voice test while voice publication is gated.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Choose voices deliberately

Keep the selection small enough to review. For each voice, record the intended language, character of delivery, and a short sample script with names and numbers. These are preparation materials for later listening tests, not evidence that conversation switching is working.

If a voice is inaccessible, check the active workspace and saved identifier before changing the rest of the configuration.
