# Parallel

> Prepare a bounded web-research action with a clear objective, attributable evidence, and incomplete-result handling.

Use Parallel to plan a focused research action, such as finding a vendor's published integration requirements. Define what evidence would answer the question before selecting search terms.

<Note>
  Parallel is not in Threetone's current native catalog. This guide prepares a search tool design. It does not enable background research, scheduled monitors, or live agent execution.
</Note>

## Prepare a research request

Have an approved provider account, a credential owner, and a limit for request cost and response size.

<Steps>
  <Step title="State the research objective" id="parallel-objective">
    Write a bounded objective and a small set of relevant search queries. Parallel's [Search quickstart](https://docs.parallel.ai/search/search-quickstart) documents these request concepts and `x-api-key` authentication. Avoid placing private customer details in a public-web query.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Keep credentials and results bounded" id="parallel-boundaries">
    Store the key outside prompts and source-controlled files. Use [workspace secrets](/agents-platform/configure/authentication/secrets) only through supported references. Specify the maximum sources, returned excerpt size, and allowed domains when applicable to the selected provider operation.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Preserve evidence and incomplete outcomes" id="parallel-evidence">
    Return source URLs with the excerpts used to support the answer. Mark missing or conflicting evidence clearly. A timeout, rate limit, or exhausted budget should return an incomplete result, not a confident unsupported conclusion. Retrieved instructions must not authorize another tool action.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Use [tool authoring](/agents-platform/configure/tools/overview) to describe the proposed request and result. Review any future external MCP endpoint through the separate [MCP configuration guide](/agents-platform/configure/integrations/mcp-servers).
